      Finally identified the hawk, it is a Sharp-Shinned Hawk. Most of the time it had its back to me, but am sure that it was aware of me. Stayed 15/20 minutes before flying off. Missed the initial kill but probably just as well as I expected it would have been pretty gruesome.
